Commitment to Child Welfare: Proposal to Improve the Adoption Law

At Hogar Cuna San Cristóbal, we work with the firm conviction that every child deserves a safe and loving home. As an entity committed to child welfare in Puerto Rico, we have presented to the Government and relevant agencies a proposal to amend Law 61-2018, known as the “Puerto Rico Adoption Law.”

While current legislation has made significant progress, challenges still persist that hinder the adoption process, prolonging the wait for many minors seeking a permanent home. Our proposal seeks to optimize the system, reduce waiting times, and expand adoption opportunities, especially for those children with special needs or over seven years of age.

The proposed changes have a clear objective: to streamline and strengthen adoption processes, always guaranteeing the best interests of the child. We believe that, with these improvements, we can offer more children and families the opportunity to build a stable and loving future together.
